Pär Caldenby is a doer. And so, a good twelve years ago, the Swede stopped dreaming and built his dream come true: his own craft distillery. The tiny Smögen Whisky AB produces celebrated, smoky Swedish single malts – predominantly in unique batches or as single casks. With the 100 proof, Caldenby laid the foundation for a core range in 2020. Now, this range is expanding with a new bottling: the Smögen 9 yo 90 proof.
Smögen whiskies are generally powerful, characterful whiskies with distinct smoky notes, maritime overtones, and malty sweetness. This latest bottling is no exception. The 90 proof is distilled from heavily peated smoked malt, matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels, and diluted with regional spring water to a characterful 51.4% ABV. The result?
