If you love rum and are thinking of Jamaica, then you've come to the right place: Hampden Estate. Founded in 1753, the distillery has been distilling in the parish of Trelawny for almost three centuries. Historically, this tropical region, popular with crocodiles, is known as the Grand Cru of Jamaican rum.
Hampden Estate is highly prized by connoisseurs for its full-bodied, flavorful bottlings. These pure, heavy rums are produced using traditional methods. Since 2010, they have also been aged in the tropical climate on-site after being naturally fermented and distilled in pot stills. One of these bottlings is Hampden Pagos, named after the Spanish term for the vineyards in the Jerez region.
The third edition of Hampden Pagos was matured entirely in Jamaica in 16 500-liter sherry casks from Bodegas Fundador. These casks were first used for up to 30 years with Oloroso, which underwent the solera process. To enhance the perfect synergy between the sherry and the high ester content of the Hampden Estate distillate, Pagos was bottled at 52% ABV.
