Cragganmore 38 Years 1985/2023 - Cask of Distinction

We are delighted to announce that the Wu Dram Clan, in collaboration with our friends at the Hong Kong Whisky Fellows, has selected a Cask of Distinction for the fourth time. This time, it's an exceptional 38-year-old Cragganmore, bottled at a proud 45.3% cask strength in September 2023. Only 174 bottles were drawn, the majority of which will go to Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Only 36 bottles are available for Europe, making this offering a true rarity.

Diageo's Cask of Distinction series presents unique whiskies from select distilleries. These limited-edition bottlings are known for their exceptional quality and distinctive characteristics, offering enthusiasts and collectors the opportunity to enjoy unique whiskies not available in the mass market. The Cragganmore distillery in Speyside, Scotland, was founded in 1869 and is famous for its traditional single-malt whisky production. Its whisky is characterized by gentle smokiness and complex aromas of honey, fruits, and spices. With unusual copper pot stills and a distinctive spirit, Cragganmore has earned a place among the world's most renowned whiskies.

Tasting Notes

Nose: The first impression reveals an intense honeyed sweetness, quickly followed by a hint of lamp oil. This honey note blends seamlessly with malt, grain, salted caramel, and a hint of lime zest, creating an intriguing combination of sweetness and freshness.

In the mouth: A truly multifaceted taste experience begins. Initially, a mineral note reminiscent of a stone cellar presents itself, followed by nuances of old wood and waxy malt. Then a surprisingly fresh and floral note emerges, which is by no means soapy, but rather evocative of the atmosphere of the 1970s. It's worth considering that the '85 vintage was already 39 years ago—a truly nostalgic experience.

Finish: The finish is long and lingering, and you can practically feel the aromas lingering on your tongue. At the same time, you'll want to refill your glass again, as this captivating flavor profile creates a real craving for further tastings.
