The Akkeshi Distillery began operations just seven years ago and is already a success story. Like its predecessors on the whisky island of Islay, the first distillery in the town of the same name in the Hokkaido region is located directly on the sea—just a few meters from the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by swamps, it also has direct access to the local peat.
The distillery releases its small-batch whiskies in the "24 Solar Term Series," inspired by the 24 solar years of the ancient Asian calendar. The lightly peated Akkeshi Seimei 2022 is the seventh release in the series. Seimei means "fresh, bright, vibrant" and symbolizes the time of awakening after winter. Swallows fly across the dark green and bright blue packaging, reflecting this contrasting time. Matured in various cask types, the whisky develops notes of caramel fudge and honey, lemons, and soy sauce, among others.
