With the single casks from the Journal des Kirsch series, we share the experiences that French spirits have to offer: excitement, surprise, delight, and variety. For the latest culinary delight, we followed the picturesque route from the city of Cognac to the idyllic town of Rouillac—to the renowned Rémi Landier distillery.
The Rémi Landier house is heir to centuries-old knowledge passed down by the Benedictine monks of the Royal Abbey of Bassac. Since 1973, Rémi Landier has been crafting elegant, delicate, and powerful Cognacs for connoisseurs and novices alike. Our discovery for the Journal des Kirsch N.8 dates back to these early years of the brand's existence.
The Rémi Landier L72-73 consists of two Cognacs des Fins Bois from the 1972 and 1973 vintages. These matured separately in 450-liter Allier and Limousin oak barrels until 1986. They were then blended and aged in a dry cellar. In 2012, the outstanding result was decanted into glass demijohns to impart the "old-bottle flavor" to the Cognac.
Bottled at a natural cask strength of 52.5% ABV, neither colored nor sweetened nor chill-filtered, stormy tropical notes collide with delicate minerality and a melting nougat.
