Mhoba - Cherry Import - Single Cask Rum #WR 10

Between the Kruger National Park in northeastern South Africa and some of the oldest mountains in the world, a mechanical engineer found his true calling. In the mid-2000s, Robert Greaves returned to the Mhoba Sugar Estate, his family's farm at the foot of the Barberton Makhonwja Mountains, where the family had been cultivating sugarcane in the tropical climate since the 1980s. Robert has been distilling his Mhoba Rum from the native Nkomazi variety for about ten years.

But not just any old thing: His small distillery operates entirely by hand, using some of the equipment he built himself. Using the pot still method, Robert and his team produce rum agricole from the fresh juice of the estate's own organic sugar cane. The single estate rum is the equivalent of single malt whisky and is neither colored nor flavored nor sweetened.

The Mhoba Rum 2019/2023 is an exclusive single cask selected by Kirsch Import. This cane rum matured in an American oak bourbon barrel, pre-filled with Woodford Reserve Whiskey. Its 63.5% ABV cask strength isn't the only thing that's significant. It combines notes of corn, salted caramel, and butter, along with floral, fruity, and spicy tones, creating a complex, exotic experience.
