Lochlea - Sowing Edition

With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape has recently grown to include an independent, family-run farm distillery. John Campbell, former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, is responsible for the distinctive style of its single malt. As one of only two distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses exclusively barley grown on its own farm and distills and matures its whisky on-site. The standard single malt is expected in the summer. Until then, the Lowland Distillery is shortening the wait with its first seasonal release.
The Lochlea Sowing Edition First Crop launches an annual series of limited-edition seasonal bottlings. Each will showcase Lochlea Single Malt in a different light, reflecting what happens on the farm as the seasons change. In spring, for example, everything springs to life and the seeds for this year's barley are sown. A vibrant, powerful time, the Sowing Edition perfectly captures the flavors of this year's malt. For a profile characterized by green apples, pears, and raspberries, warm shortbread, and fresh floral notes, the single malt is matured 100% in first-fill bourbon barrels.
