Compass Box - Secrets of Smoke
In the world of peated Scotch malt whiskies, the intensity of the smoke usually dominates the debate. What is often overlooked is the inherent sweetness of peated malts, hidden behind campfires. Over the years, Compass Box has experimented with maturing peated whiskies in sherry and wine casks. With Secrets of Smoke, the whiskymakers have succeeded in using these casks to break through the smoky shell and release the surprising sweetness at the core of peated whiskies.
Barrels flavored with Palo Cortado sherry emphasize the toffee-apple characteristics of Caol Ila's malt whisky. Refill Red Wine Barrels draw bright cherry notes from the depths of The Peat Monster, Compass Box's proprietary blend of Islay malts. And Marsala barrels bring the aromas of oat bars with blueberries to the surface of Laphroaig whisky.
