Compass Box - Flaming Heart - 25th Anniversary

Compass Box first brought Flaming Heart to the stage in 2006. The inspiration for the blended malt was a rock song by M. Ward. For the powerhouse's eighth performance, the "whiskymakers" are relying solely on peat whisky.

Celebrating Compass Box's 25th anniversary, this revised version combines malt whiskies from the distilleries Benrinnes, Laphroaig, Williamson, and, most notably, Talisker. They were matured for up to 17 years in newly charred American oak casks and heavily toasted, bespoke French oak casks. The Laphroaig portion was also finished in Marsala barriques.

The result is a rich, oily smoke and piquant spice, while hints of raspberries, apricots, and cookie dough add depth. Impressions of tarred rope frame the aroma. On the palate, the smoke thickens, complemented by spices such as cloves, pepper, and nutmeg. Medicinal peat notes duel with bright, wine-like fruit notes, before the smoke fades into a woody and ashy finish with menthol and citrus oils.
